 recycling

Bike recycling is growing across the UK, and the Bike Station is one of the country's largest and longest-established bike recycling projects.

We take any unused bike, no matter its age or condition. Around 60% are refurbished and put back on the roads. The rest are dismantled and spare parts re-used on other bikes. Anything left over is sent for recycling.

We also take any unused parts and accessories, such as old locks, lights, bike panniers etc. The only things we cannot take are old bike helmets.

To donate an old bike, or parts or accessories, opening times and directions are available on the Find Us page. There is ample parking right outside our door. If you cannot deliver your old bike, we may be able to collect. Call us on 0131 668 1996.

So far, we have taken in over 10,000 bicycles since 2002 - Edinburgh has an estimated 150,000 bikes, with the number growing every year as cycling becomes more popular. Don't let your old bike go to waste.

HOW TO SET UP AND RUN A BIKE RECYCLING PROJECT

The Bike Station has produced a guidebook called "How to set up and run a bike recycling project". This gives information and advice, facts and figures, about bike recycling and how to go about setting up and running a bike recycling project.

It is aimed at groups and individuals who either want to set up a project from scratch, or want to add a new project to their organisation's existing activities.

For more information, contact us, or simply send a cheque for £30 made out to the Bike Station and one will be sent out by return."
