Recycle to Cycle Annual General Meeting – Friday 19th October 2012

It is time again for Recycle to Cycle/Recycle to Cycle Ltd, the companies behind the Bike Station, to hold their Annual General Meeting. This is an opportunity to look at the work and activities of the organisation over the past year and to elect the board's directors for the coming year.

The past year has provided some significant challenges to the project  but following a reorganisation and the revamp of the workshop we are now well placed to continue the valuable work our staff, volunteers and funders make possible.

Volunteers to join the committee and help with the management of the organisation are welcomed - please contact the Bike Station if you are interested.

The meeting will start at 5pm on Friday 19th October 2012. There will be a short presentation on the past year's work and looking forward to the year ahead followed by the formal business of the meeting.

 Time:               5pm until 7pm

Location:          The Bike Station – Kittle Yards office

                         1 Kittle Yards

                          Edinburgh

                          EH9 1PJ

If you are planning on attending, we would be grateful if you could RSVP to info@thebikestation.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you there.

The Edinburgh Bike Station is changing . . .

If you’ve been to the Edinburgh Bike Station recently, you’ll have noticed that we are in the middle of making major changes to the layout of the workshop. In a few weeks time, we’ll be opening up a new display space for week-round bike sales and extending the space available for our popular Fix Your Own Bike sessions. To accommodate the work, our opening hours have been reduced.

While this renovation work is going on, the stock of bicycles available for the Saturday bike sales is not as big as usual.  If you can't find what you want this week, please come back soon, as this shortage of bicycles is only temporary. Once the work is finished, the new display space will mean that we can put bicycles on sale as soon as they are fixed by our mechanics. The Bike Station will be open for sales six days per week once the work is complete.

We will also be extending the space available for our ever-popular Fix Your Own Bike sessions and running them for longer.  For a small fee you can rent a work stand to work on your own bicycle, with a professional mechanic and expert volunteers to advise and show you what to do. Plus, we'll have dedicated teaching space upstairs on the mezzanine for Weldtech and other courses. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, our repair service reopens at the same time as the new display area – reasonably priced repairs using recycled parts where appropriate.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT – WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN OUR NEW WORKSHOP SOON!

Edinburgh's A better way to work is signing off...

The A better way to work project in Edinburgh finishes on Friday 30th March.

We've had a lot of fun working with different companies, engaging with all of you, and we hope we've made a difference to the way you travel.

To date we've held 59 travel events, handed out 1035 cycle maps and given away over 579 cycle computers. Dr Bike has fixed 499 bikes over 67 sessions (many thanks to the lovely mechanics in the Bike Station for all their hard work!).

It's been a great year and we're all sad that the project is coming to an end here. The good news is that the Glasgow Bike Station has been awarded CCF funding to run A better way to work in Glasgow for the next three years - if you live in Glasgow or commute through look out for them coming to your workplace soon!

If you would like your workplace or organisation to take part in Glasgow's A better way to work campaign, please contact the Glasgow Bike Station for more information on 0141 248 5409.
