There are many miles of off-street cycle paths (see them on the Innertube map) crossing the city, networks of quiet roads and increasing numbers of cycle facilities gradually being developed. Don't be fooled by the hills - most of the city is fairly flat - or the weather, it's a lot drier than you think. But watch out for the tramtracks - Download this leaflet for some tips and more information about cycling and trams (best print it out as the most useful page comes out upside down).

Here are some resources about cycling in Edinburgh, and there is plenty more out there.

The Bike Station's Innertube map is the best map of the off-street routes in Edinburgh, and Innertubemap.com is a good place for information about where to go, and other news about cycling in Edinburgh (and you can add to it).

Spokes is the Edinburgh and Lothians cycle campaign group, their website contains a lot of information about routes etc. Their award-winning Polite Cycling campaign is a good source of information about safe and polite cycling in Edinburgh - many of the city's cycle paths are shared use, so sensible sharing is vital.

SUSTRANS is a national cycle organisation who manage the National Cycle Routes, of which there are many in and near Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The City of Edinburgh Council have a section on cycling in Edinburgh on their website.

If you are an Edinburgh University student or staff, click here for information about cycling at the university.

If you are at Heriot-Watt University, this page contains information about local cycle routes and other cycle-related resources.
