Groups
We offer a range of activiites to groups, these can be youth groups, primary school groups secondary school groups, corporate groups, groups of cycle trainers, any group really. Some of these activities carry external accreditation through Weldtech, the training arm of Weldtite.
Dr Bike
A qualified Dr Bike mechanic visits your location and sets up our portable workshop to service and diagnose faults on bikes brought along.
Most common faults can be repaired on the spot. Where a fault cannot be repaired, a bike “MOT” is given: a "prescription" describing what work needs to be done, and where you could get it done, and where possible an estimate of what it might typically cost.

Dr Bike/Northshore event
The Bike Station Northshore is a purpose-built portable obstacle course, and comes equipped with a qualified Mountain Bike Leader, bicycles and helmets for participants, in conjunction with the Bike Doctor.
This enables us to fix/adjust people's bikes and let them have a try at the obstacle course and get some coaching through it. The aim of this event is to get people's attention and can be used very successfully as an opportunity to “engage” young people, to promote healthy living and cycling, especially when run as part of a larger event or range of related activities, or as a precursor to other bike courses.
Contact Ruairidh on 0131 668 1996 or ruairidh@thebikestation.org.uk for further information and costs.
Build Your Own Bike Course
This is a course for pre-formed groups of up to six participants where they build a brand new bike starting with a bare frame, ending with a fully-built mountain bike that each participant gets to keep.
The course is run as 16 hours workshop time building the bikes in the Bike Station's fully-equipped training workshop. This can be two hours, one day a week for 8 weeks, or three afternoons in the same week, or whatever timing best suits the group's needs.
The course includes one full day's mountain biking at Glentress Forest mountain bike centre near Peebles under the supervision of qualified mountain bike leaders. At the completion of the course, the Bike Station arranges an afternoon event of either cycling the finished bikes back to your group's location (where suitable, and using local cycle paths) or a Northshore event.
Typical Build Your Own Bike Courses are for six participants, and include the new bikes and the trip to Glentress etc. Contact ruairidh on 0131 668 1996 or ruairidh@thebikestation.org.uk for more information and costs.
Weldtech Gold Award
The Weldtech Gold Award is an accredited award recognised by the Bicycle Association, at the end of which the successful participants get the Gold Award which is a recognised professional mechanics qualification.
The course is run over 28 hours ( 4 X 7 hour days, or 3 hours 1 afternoon a week, or whatever suits the group). Places are limited to four participants per course, and covers everything from fixing a puncture to a complete rebuild of a bike.
During the course the candidates are shown how to perform each task, then led through the procedure, and finally have to carry out the task unaided to demonstrate that they understand the procedure and can carry it out in a safe and competent manner.

It is a 1 day course ( 7 hrs. ) for four participants per course.
