#EverydayHeroes: Olivia’s Bike — Built to Last, Built with Care

For Olivia, The Bike Station has always been part of growing up.

“I always got my bikes from The Bike Station,” she says. “And I used to donate my old ones back as well.”

One memory stands out clearly. As a child, Olivia was devastated to outgrow her pink, princess-themed bike. Letting it go felt big and emotional — but there was comfort too, knowing another little girl would soon be riding it.

Years later, that same cycle of care and reuse came full circle. During lockdown, Olivia’s bike became a lifeline. With only an hour allowed outside each day, cycling offered freedom, fresh air, and a way to cope with a world full of uncertainty.

Her bike meant picnics, movement, and moments of normality during an otherwise difficult time. It wasn’t just transport — it was wellbeing.

“I’m never getting rid of it,” Olivia says. “I know this bike will last me for years to come and take me many places.”

This is the lasting impact of refurbished bikes done properly. When bikes are built with care and passed on with intention, they support people through childhood, change, challenge, and beyond.

These are the everyday hero stories we see all the time, not dramatic, not loud, but deeply meaningful. They remind us why access, affordability, and sustainability matter, and how a single bike can shape a lifetime of journeys.

Stories like these happen every day at The Bike Station — but they’re only possible with support from people who believe in affordable, accessible cycling for all. If you’re able to, please consider donating to our crowdfunder. Your contribution helps us refurbish bikes, support families, and keep our community moving.
