The Bike Station Wins “Transforming Lives Organisation of the Year” at the SSF Awards 2026

Updated: 2 days ago

We’re proud to share that The Bike Station has been named Transforming Lives Organisation of the Year at the 2026 Scottish Sports Futures Awards.

The award, sponsored by Commonwealth Sport and part of the annual SSF Awards supported by sportscotland, recognises organisations using sport and physical activity in innovative ways to create meaningful change for young people and communities across Scotland.

Receiving this recognition is a huge honour for our team and partners, and a powerful reminder of how something as simple as a bike can unlock opportunity, confidence and independence.

Celebrating organisations that change lives through sport

The SSF Awards celebrate individuals and organisations that are making a difference through sport. Hosted each year by Scottish Sports Futures, the event highlights stories of resilience, community impact and positive change. Scottish Sports Futures is an organisation that works with young people across Scotland, using sport and physical activity to help them become healthier, more confident and more resilient - particularly those facing challenges such as poverty, trauma or exclusion.

Through programmes delivered in schools and communities, SSF supports young people to build life skills, strengthen relationships and access new opportunities. The awards recognise those who are helping to turn that mission into reality across the country.

Supporting young people to access cycling

The Bike Station’s work with schools, young people and families in Edinburgh and Perth was highlighted as part of the award.

Our programmes focus on removing barriers to cycling and making it accessible for everyone. For many children, learning to ride a bike is a milestone that opens the door to independence, confidence and outdoor activity.

Cycling as a vehicle for social change

At The Bike Station, we believe bikes can do more than get you from A to B. They can connect communities, improve wellbeing, build skills and create opportunities.

From refurbishing bikes and keeping them in use, to delivering inclusive cycling sessions and working with schools, our goal is simple: to make cycling accessible to everyone.

This award recognises the dedication of our mechanics, instructors, volunteers and partners who make that work possible every day.

Thank you to our community

Achievements like this are only possible thanks to the incredible community around The Bike Station.

Thank you to:

  • Active Schools team from Live Active Perth who work closely with us on KBL in Perth and prompted us to apply for the award

  • the schools and community partners we work with

  • the young people and families who take part in our programmes

  • our volunteers and staff

  • and everyone who supports our work through donations, bike purchases and advocacy

Together, we’re proving that bikes really can be a vehicle for social change.
